Christine McDaniel, PhD

Principal Associate

Dr. McDaniel is Senior Research Fellow in the Mercatus Center at George Mason University, Adjunct Professor at George Washington University, Adjunct Professor at Johns Hopkins University, and Principal Associate at The MacroDyn Group.

Christine is a highly respected economist, researcher, and policy adviser with extensive US federal government experience at senior levels of policy making.

Christine has held several positions in the U.S. government, including: Deputy Assistant Secretary for Economic Policy at the Treasury Department, serving under Secretary Henry Paulson; senior trade economist on the White House Council of Economic Advisers under President George W. Bush; Chief Economic Adviser to Chairman Shara Aranoff at the US International Trade Commission; and has held positions at the U.S. Department of Commerce and the U.S. Trade Representative.

Christine  has also previously worked at Sidley Austin, LLP, a global law firm, where she was a senior economist supporting the firm’s global government and private sector clientele.

Additionally, Christine  spent time in Australia as Research Principal at the Australian Productivity Commission, contributing to policy analysis and development in a range of areas of key importance. She also served as Deputy Chief Economist in Australia’s patent office.

Christine  has published in a variety of forums in the areas of international trade, intellectual property, and empirical trade analysis and modeling, and is sought-after commentator on a variety of economic issues with the US and foreign media.

She holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Colorado and received her B.A. in Economics and B.A. in Japanese Studies from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
